Getting Started: Set Up Your First Project
Create a project, invite your team, and assign your first tasks in under 10 minutes.
Step 1: Create a Project
Log in to your TaskOrbit account and click the '+' button in the sidebar. Give your project a clear name (e.g., "Website Redesign Q1 2024") and set the default timezone—this helps async notifications land at the right time for distributed team members.
Step 2: Invite Your Team
Click Settings → Team. Add email addresses for each team member. You can assign roles immediately (Owner, Manager, Contributor) or adjust permissions later. Invitations are sent instantly; they'll set up their accounts in minutes.
Step 3: Create Your First Tasks
Click 'New Task' and fill in:
- Title: What needs to be done (be specific)
- Assignee: Who owns it
- Due Date: When it ships
- Dependencies: What must finish first
- Description: Context, links, requirements
Our smart routing suggests assignees based on workload. Accept or override.
Step 4: Integrate Slack
Go to Integrations → Slack and authorize. Now your team can:
- Update tasks with
/task update - Create tasks from Slack messages
- Receive async notifications without the noise
Pro Tip
Set notification preferences immediately. Go to Settings → Notifications and adjust digest frequency (we recommend daily morning digest for async-heavy teams). This prevents notification fatigue while keeping everyone informed.
